ChildFund International (CFI) serves the little ones. The worldwide non-profit organization provides education, medical care, food, and safe water to more than 13 million children -- of all faiths -- in about 30 countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the US. It works in areas of early childhood development, education, family income generation, nutrition, and sanitation. The group also tries to get child soldiers away from the military and reintegrated into daily life. Founded in 1938 as China's Children Fund, the group changed its name to Christian Children's Fund in 1951. In 2009 it again renamed itself ChildFund International.
Since its founding as an organization focused on orphans and orphanages, CFI has become an international child development organization. More than 500,000 sponsored children receive monthly contributions through the group; about 350,000 of those sponsorships are supported by donors in the US. CFI also publishes newsletters, booklets, and studies on the effects of poverty and violence on children.
