This position is located within the Centralized Warehousing Section in the Supply Chain Management Service Pillar in the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo, with duty station, Goma. The Logistics Assistant reports to the Chief of Unit or to the Logistics Officer.

Within delegated authority, the Logistics Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: • Responds to internal inquiries from section personnel and clients or refers them to appropriate contacts/units. • Retrieves information and background research from various sources (e.g. Intra-/Internet, office files, central documentation services, etc.). • Plans, schedules, supervises, and coordinates disposal services of scrap metal, written off assets and equipment throughout the disposal yards. • Provides updates of write off and disposal status on a regular basis. • Assists in the preparation of disposal request orders for written off items. • Coordinate lot preparation, disposal certificates and cannibalization documents accomplishment with regional offices - electronically and in hard copy. • Assists in the preparation of temporarily hand overs. • Records logistics activity and contract performance. • Updates relevant databases (e.g., stock levels of various supply items, asset holdings, logistics project updates). • Assists in the generation of status reports and other reports on various transport and logistics matter as required. • Maintains contract files, office correspondence, and Unit’s files and manuals. • Performs other duties as required.

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

A valid driving permit is required.

Do you have a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of property management, inventory control, supply chain operations, practical logistics, procurement, or other related fields is required. Good computer skills, including Word Processing, and Excel, are required. Knowledge of SAP/Umoja and Business Object Applications is desirable

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in French (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge English is desirable.

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
